Demolition permits have been issued for a two-story masonry commercial building located at 210 W Chestnut Street in Near North Side. While the permits were issued for 210 W Chestnut Street, the upcoming building address will be 232 W Chestnut Street. This permit is part of a wave of demolitions meant to make way for the upcoming North Union development led by JDL Development.

Second Site Clearing Begins for North Union Megadevelopment in Near North Side

Demolition and site clearing work is now underway for a 25-story mixed-use tower at 868 N Wells Street, the second building in the broader “North Union” scheme set to transform the north end of Chicago’s skyline. The tower will yield 428 rental units atop 12,000 square feet of retail. Currently underway the sibling tower at 920 N Wells Street is making significant construction progress, with much of the first floor’s superstructure now taking shape. This slightly shorter building will stand 18 stories and offer 10,000 square feet of retail and 228 apartments.

Demolition Permit Issued for 210 W Chestnut Street in Near North Side

Permits were issued last week for the demolition of a two-story commercial building located at 210 W Chestnut Street in Near North Side neighborhood. The permit’s owner has been listed as 920 N Wells Street LLC. The demolition permit indicates the building demolished has a masonry exterior and the scope of removal includes the slab foundation. As of now, no plans appear to have been submitted to upgrade any of the zoning designations for this property and there is currently no information on any future constructions at the site.

At 2.1 million square feet, the mixed-use project will yield a combination of 55,000 square feet of office space, 812 residential units, restaurant and banquet space, and a new 65,000-square-foot Whole Foods at its base.
