The Insect Asylum Finds a Home at 2870 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Avondale

Chicago is gaining a new museum in Avondale called the Insect Asylum. This unique concept is described on their Instagram page by its founder, Nina Salem as “an artistic display of over 24,000 taxidermy insects ranging from 1910- 2022.” Salem has been amassing this collection and showing it around Chicago at various pop-ups and events for roughly five years.┬áThe collection is almost entirely vintage and has been ethically sourced by Salem herself in conjunction with entomologist as well as member donations.

Wilmot is teaming up with Hanna Architects to bring the new five-story building to the ever-growing neighborhood. Bound by W Belmont Avenue to the north and an existing one-story auto repair shop to the west, its eastern neighbor would be a new five-story residential development called The Avondale also being developed by Wilmot.
