First Set Of Casino Community Meetings Conclude With Pushback

The City of Chicago has completed the first round of community presentations for the final three casino bids. Earlier this year in March news broke of the mayor selecting the three sites with the first community meetings beginning early in April, this ruled out the Bally’s and Rivers McCormick Place bids, leaving us with Bally’s Tribune, Hard Rock’s One Central, and Rivers The 78 as the remaining choices. Potential Groundbreaking Date Announced For 400 N Lake Shore Drive In Streeterville

A potential groundbreaking date has been revealed for the residential towers at 400 N Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville. Located on the long vacant site of the failed Chicago Spire development, the two new towers would partially utilize the foundation hole left by the Spire and provide a cap to the Ogden Slip. Developer Related Midwest who is also behind The 78 near the South Loop is working with globally famous skyscraper firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill on the design, the firm responsible for a number of Chicago’s major skyscrapers.

Developer Transfers Land For Discovery Partners Institute In The 78

Developer Related Midwest has transferred the land title of a portion of The 78 mega-development to the University of Illinois for the construction of the Discovery Partners Institute. The transfer gives the university control of an acre of land near the intersection of S Wells Street and W 15th Street to begin the first phase of the education facility. The project being developed by the university features a bold design by globally-renowned design firm OMA.

Update: City Narrows Down Casino Bids To Final Three

Updated renderings and details have been released for two of the five casino bids hoping to win as the city progresses to select a winner later this year. As plans continue to be flushed out leading up to the decisions, the bidders forge partnerships in hopes of impressing city council. YIMBY provided past updates on all plans in October and November of 2021 and this last February when McCormick Place expressed their concerns with plans using their site.

Designers Selected For DuSable Park In Streeterville

The Chicago Park District has selected the design firms to proceed with the design of the long-stalled DuSable Park at 401 N DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville. Located just east of the drive adjacent to the site that was to house the Chicago Spire, the project is moving forward with the Park District selecting a joint venture between Ross Barney Architects and Brook Architecture to work on the design of the 3.5-acre park.
