Concrete core at 400 Lake Shore has risen above the Chicago Spire cofferdam

The famous Chicago Spire cofferdam continues its fade into oblivion, as the concrete core for the North Tower at 400 Lake Shore has cleared the top of the former hole in the ground. The core got some help, of course, in the form of a severe haircut for the concrete-and-steel cofferdam, which is being cut away piece by piece. The iron ring that appears in the photos below will be removed, leaving only the lowest portions buried deep in the ground.

Renderings revealed for residential building at 1723 S Michigan Avenue in the South Loop

Renderings have been revealed for the 12-story residential building currently under construction at 1723 S Michigan Avenue in the South Loop. Images from design firm Gensler show a smooth glass finish, with north- and south-facing balconies on all residential floors. Colorful murals accent the north and south ends of the podium, while columns frame the Michigan-Avenue-facing first-floor retail spaces.

Related Midwest hosts groundbreaking ceremony for 400 Lake Shore skyscraper development

Related Midwest hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, June 17, at the construction site of 400 Lake Shore, their new two-tower residential development in Streeterville. Repurposing the former Chicago Spire site, the 72-story North Tower is currently under construction; the South Tower will follow. The North Tower will deliver 635 residential units, with 20% of them set aside as affordable.
