Retail Program Approved For LaSalle Street In The Loop

Initial plans have been approved for a new program to revitalize the retail scene along LaSalle Street in The Loop. Riding the wave from the recently announced bids for the city’s LaSalle Street Reimagined initiative, the new program looks to address the vast amount of vacant retail and commercial spaces fronting the once-packed street. Introduced by Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the program will tap into local TIF’s and serve the same area bound by W Washington Street to the north and W Van Buren Street to the south.

Plans Approved For 2222 S Michigan Avenue In Motor Row

The Chicago City Council has approved the mixed-use redevelopment of 2222 S Michigan Avenue in the Motor Row District. Located just south of the intersection with E Cermak Road, the development will renovate an existing slim building that runs the full-length of the block to S Wabash Avenue. The team behind the work is developer Hudson Michigan Avenue LLC who has tapped local design firm FitzGerald and RTM Engineering Consultants on the project which will be called Hudson Motor Row.

Initial Funding Approved For Red Line Extension

The Chicago City Council has approved funding for the CTA Red Line Extension across the South Side. In the works for nearly 50 years, the extension would bring much needed transit from the current terminus of the line at 95th Street all the way down to 130th Street near Altgeld Gardens by Lake Calumet. Hoping to spur new economic development and connect more people to the city center, the project is being spearheaded by the CTA with help from Muller 2 Architects who also worked on the O’Hare Airport Terminal 5 expansion.

City Fully Approves Bally’s Casino With Revisions In River West

Key city approvals have been granted for the upcoming Bally’s Casino at 777 W Chicago Avenue in River West. The approvals came from both City Council and Plan Commission that have now fully cleared the project to move forward within the city, with the last hurdle being the upcoming vote from the Illinois Gaming Board. Rhode Island-based Bally’s famously won the long bidding competition earlier this year and committed to creating their flagship property in the city with local architecture firm SCB working on its design and Site Design Group on landscape.

City Council Approves Daycare At 1749 N Damen Avenue In Bucktown

The Chicago City Council has approved plans for a new daycare at 1749 N Damen Avenue in Bucktown. Located near the intersection with W Willow Street and the famed 606 trail, the proposal will demolish four-existing multi-story commercial structures that have struggled to maintain tenants, including the former home of Mindy’s Hot Chocolate. The project is being led by Kensington Schools under a new LLC, with an undisclosed architect working on its design.
