Thompson Center Renovations Have Begun at 100 West Randolph Street in The Loop

Demolition work is clearly evident at 100 West Randolph Street in The Loop, as the transformation of the Thompson Center for Google hits its stride. The ceremonial kickoff for the renovation took place earlier this week, but demolition work has been underway for a few weeks. Along with considerable progress at street level along the perimeter of the building, there’s also a gaping hole in the east facade of the Helmut Jahn classic in The Loop. Clark Construction is the general contractor tasked with redoing the office building so Google can move in upon rehab completion.

Construction Kicks Off At Thompson Center Redevelopment in The Loop

Construction has formally commenced on the redevelopment of the Thompson Center at 100 W Randolph Street in The Loop. The iconic structure has been fenced off for a while with pre-construction work and prep going on. The redevelopment is being led by developer Prime|Capri and Google with the building’s original architecture firm JAHN working on the new design.

LaSalle Street Office Conversion Plans Advance for Four Developments

On Wednesday, April 3rd, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced the selection of four developments for the LaSalle Street Reimagined initiative. These projects aim to rejuvenate the area by brining residents into the corridor after pandemic vacancies, utilizing $151.2 million in tax-increment financing funds. The office-to-residential developments will repurpose underused office buildings and adding over 1,000 new residential units, including at least 319 affordable units. Pending approval by the City Council, completion is slated for 2027 as reported by WTTW News.

Facade Nears Completion for RIU Plaza Hotel at 150 E Ontario Street in Streeterville

With much of the remaining work now at the base, The Prime Group is finalizing the construction of a 28-story hotel located at 150 E Ontario Street in the Streeterville neighborhood. This building, a part of the RIU Hotels and Resorts group, is 345 feet tall and includes 388 guest rooms. On the ground floor will be a lobby and a cafe situated at the southeast corner, while the second level will house a dining room for guests.

RIU Plaza Takes Sixth-Place In Year-End Countdown

Taking the sixth place in this year’s countdown is the RIU Plaza Hotel Chicago at 150 E Ontario Street in Streeterville. Located just east of the intersection with N Michigan Avenue, the project came in ninth place in last year’s countdown as it replaced an empty lot. Developer The Prime Group worked with local architecture firm Lucien LaGrange Studio on the hotel which will be operated by Spain-based RIU Hotels.

Sitting right in the heart of downtown, the massive structure has been at the center of many debates on preservation since the state announced its sale years ago. Now its new tenant and future owner Google has laid out its plans designed by JAHN Architects, the firm of the building’s original designer.

Potential Completion Date Revealed For Thompson Center Redevelopment

A potential completion date has been revealed for the Thompson Center redevelopment at 100 W Randolph Street in The Loop. The massive building from 1985 was designed by famed architect Helmut Jahn, who fought for its preservation prior to his death when news of the structure’s sale first broke. This culminated with Google purchasing the structure last year for $105 million from The Prime Group who was originally selected by the state to buy the property for $70 million from a group of bids.

150 E Ontario Hotel Reaches Two-Thirds Mark in Streeterville

The 28-story hotel at 150 E Ontario Street has risen to approximately the two-thirds mark in the Streeterville neighborhood. The development, led by The Prime Group, will be a new addition to the RIU Hotels and Resorts chain. The 345-foot-tall structure will have 388 guest rooms, with a large lobby area and a connected cafe at the southeast corner of the ground floor.
