Initial details have been revealed for a new mixed-use facility for the Illinois Basketball Academy at 1800 W Lake Street in the northern edge of the Near West Side. Bound by N Wood Street to the east and N Wolcott Avenue to the west, the block-long structure will be replacing a one-story commercial building and a large vacant lot.
Zoning has been partially approved for the upcoming redevelopment of the former Florence Crittenton Anchorage at 2678 W Washington Boulevard in East Garfield Park. Located just east of the intersection with N California Avenue, the vacant estate became a historical landmark in 2023 and is preparing for a new life as a community center and more.
A groundbreaking has been held for the new home of BandWith Chicago at 134 S California Avenue in East Garfield Park. Located near the intersection with W Adams Street, the project will redevelop an existing industrial building for the headquarters of the non-profit organization. Most recently the project scored major funding from the city in prep for construction.
Revised plans have been revealed for the mixed-use expansion of the Black Ensemble Theater (BE) at 4427 N Clark Street in Uptown. Dubbed ‘The Free To BE Village’, the multi-structure development was originally revealed last year and will rise across the street from the current home of the Black Ensemble Theater.
