Landmarking steps taken for 729 E Oakwood Boulevard in Grand Boulevard

The Chicago Landmarks Commission has initiated a preliminary recommendation to afford landmark status to the Monumental Baptist Church, located at 729 E Oakwood Boulevard in Grand Boulevard. The historic church was established in 1899 by architects Patton, Fisher, and Miller. In order to be considered for landmark status, a structure must meet a number of established criteria. The Monumental Baptists Church has many of the available criteria including value as an example of a city, state, or national heritage, relationship to a significant person, exemplary architecture, and a few other notable criteria including a distinctive visual feature.

New Permits Issued for 4105 S Prairie Avenue in the Grand Boulevard

A permit was approved on yesterday for a new three-story residential building to be located at 4105 S Prairie Avenue in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood. The owner is listed as James Nahon and plans indicate this project will yield three total units, each with a rear open porch. The permits include a detached three-car garage. The development will replace a vacant lot and joins two other planned projects of the same scope on the same lot. We previously reported on these additional projects last year.

The owner is listed as James Nahon and plans indicate this project will yield three total units, each with a rear open porch. Additionally, the permits include a detached three-car garage. The development will replace a vacant lot. Nahon has been issued several permits for this area some of which we have previously reported upon.

Winning Proposal Selected For RFP At 5021 S Wabash Avenue In Grand Boulevard

Plans have been revealed for the redevelopment of an existing building at 5021 S Wabash Avenue in Grand Boulevard. Located just north of E 51st Street, the project site includes a large empty lot along with the aforementioned small structure. The project comes as the answer to a 2021 RFP by the city to help bolster the commercial presence near and on 51st, the winning entry dubbed ‘Soul City Kitchens’ is being led by Urban Equities with local design firm SmithGroup re-imagining the lot.

Walton Street Builders Inc is listed as the owner and plans indicate this project will yield three total units, each with rear steal porches and an egress staircase. The development will be accompanied by a concrete patio and a four-car private masonry garage. The development will replace a vacant lot.
