Initial Plans Revealed For Bronzeville Trail Parkway

Initial plans have been revealed for a new elevated park trail spanning the length of an abandoned Kenwood CTA tracks in Bronzeville. Plans for a recreation space on the aging infrastructure have been discussed as far back as 2005 and recently started solidifying with the creation of the Bronzeville Trail Task Force (BTTF) in 2020 to begin the community outreach and fundraising efforts to execute the concept. The task force is currently working on preliminary studies and budgets while seeking a formal designer for the project as well.

Funding Approved For Performance Arts Center At 4343 S Cottage Grove Avenue In Bronzeville

Funding has been approved for the construction of a new performing arts center at 4343 S Cottage Grove Avenue in Bronzeville. Located just north of the intersection with E 44th Street, the center will utilize an existing two-story masonry clad building on the Bronzeville Cultural Corridor. The project was conceptualized by local actor Harry Lennix who is working with developer Keith Giles, investor Mike Wordlaw, and local firm Nia Architects on the design of what Lennix envisions to become the “Black Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.”

Initial details have been revealed for the second phase of 43Green at 301 E 43rd Street in Bronzeville. Located on the corner with S Prairie Avenue adjacent to the CTA Green Line 43rd station, the new Landon Bone Baker Architects-designed building will replace a one-story commercial building presently on the site. The project comes to us from co-developers P3 Markets and The Habitat Company, the same team behind the nearby first phase that began site prep earlier this year.

City Council Approves TIF For Various City Parks

The Chicago City Council has approved the financing for multiple small-improvement projects of various Chicago Park District properties across the city. Initial details have been revealed for the redevelopment of the public areas of Margaret T. Burroughs Beach at 3100 S DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Bronzeville. Most commonly known as 31st Street Beach, the updated plans come after a multi-year delay on the project which will tie in with the adjacent harbor. The redevelopment is being led by the Chicago Park District who is working with local firm Site Design Group on the new structures that will benefit from The Bronzeville Lakefront megadevelopment.
