Rhapsody Theater Opens at 1328 W Morse Avenue in Rogers Park

A breath of air has been blown into a historic theater in Rogers Park. The newly opened Rhapsody Theater opened Tuesday at 1328 W Morse Avenue. The theater originally opened in 1912 as the Morse Theatre which operated as a vaudeville and movie house. According to  Cinema Treasures, the original theater sat 650 audience members. In 1938 the theater was remodeled in an Art Deco style, reopened, and was dubbed the Co-Ed Theatre.

Life Rings Appear Along Lake Michigan After Years Of Advocacy From Rogers Park Neighbors

In recent weeks life rings have appeared along Chicago beaches. Their presence is thanks in part to a bill introduced by Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Rogers Park) following the drowning death of 19-year-old Miguel Cisneros in the summer of 2021 near Farwell Pier.  Rogers Park neighbors have seen a number of drowning deaths at the location, and community members have installed rings as preventative measures and have pushed the district for years to respond to drowning deaths.

A new permit has been issued for a new four-story residential building located at 6753 N Hermitage Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood. The permit’s owners have been listed as Stork Builders Inc and plans indicate that the scope of the project will include eight total units, each equipped with outdoor space at the rear. Plans also show a detached eight-car garage. The lot is currently unoccupied.

Demo Permit Approved for 3003 W Jarvis Avenue in Rogers Park

A demolition permit has been issued to remove a two-story building located at 3003 W Jarvis Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood. The permit’s owners have been listed as Moshe and Elizabeth Freedman. At the time of this writing, no plans appear to have been submitted to upgrade any of the zoning designations for this property and there are currently no permits for any future constructions.
