Initial TIF Granted For South Shore Mixed-Use Development

Funding has been partially approved for part of the mixed-use development centered at 2935 E 79th Street in South Shore. Located on the corner with S Exchange Avenue in front of the Cheltenham/79th Street Metra station, the multi-lot project will redevelop a pair of existing buildings and create new opportunities for home ownership. Dubbed ‘Thrive Exchange’, developer DL3 Realty is working with KOO Architects and Site Design Group on the design of the proposal which won a 2021 Invest South/West RFP.

City Council Greenlights Temporary Video Production Studio at Near South Side’s Planned Esports Stadium

Chicago City Council has approved a temporary video production studio, which is part of the Surge Esports Stadium to be constructed in Near South Side. The studio will occupy the existing two-story masonry building at 2617 South Wabash Avenue, which will then be converted to retail and 30 parking spaces upon the completion of the new construction. Developer SMASH Interactive has not yet revealed the nature of this studio, though its temporary functions may be due to the fact that the final building will build in its own studio areas. The total square footage will span 109,000 square feet, distributed across 36,000 square feet for the existing building and 73,000 square feet for the addition.

New Round Of Winners Announced For The Invest South/West Initiative

Three new winners of the city’s Invest South/West initiative have been announced by the mayor in Humboldt Park and South Shore. The three winners are located at 3601 W Chicago Avenue and 4000 W North Avenue in 2908 E 79th Street in South Shore. All together the three proposals represent a $126 million investment in the neighborhoods aimed at increasing the quality of life, adding equitable affordable housing while joining a list of seven past winners of the two-year-old program that are set to break ground soon.

City Council Approves Esports Stadium at 2500 S Wabash in Near South Side

The Chicago City Council has approved Surge eSports Stadium located at 2500 S Wabash Avenue in the Near South Side. Located along S Wabash Avenue, the project will utilize two different sites. The main property, located at 2500 S Wabash Avenue, is bound by E 25th Street to the north, S Wabash Avenue to the east, a four-story residential building to the south, and a public alley and CTA L tracks to the west. The lot currently holds a two-story brick building and surface parking lot for trailers. The secondary lot, located at 2617 S Wabash Avenue, is occupied by an existing surface parking lot and one-story masonry building at the intersection of S Wabash Avenue and E 26th Street.
