Quickly rising in the Illinois Medical District is the 22-story mixed-use high rise at 513 S Damen Avenue. Developer Marquette Companies has planned for 1,000 square feet of retail, above which will be 279 rental apartments. These dwellings will be laid out as studios, junior one-bedrooms, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms.
Directly across from the rapidly developing UI Health Outpatient Center, the new UI Health Welcome Atrium at 1740 W Taylor Street can also be seen making extensive progress in the Illinois Medical District. This new two-story glass-clad lobby attaches directly to the hospital’s main building, and has been designed with several purposes in mind. According to an overview on UI Health’s website, the new addition will “improve access, circulation, and wayfinding for patients, visitors, and staff,” while also strengthening brand and image for the hospital and creating a sense of comfort and security for visitors.
Facade work can be seen in its final act at the new UI Health Outpatient Surgery Center & Specialty Clinics building in the Illinois Medical District. The six-story building has replaced a former vacant lot situated just south of the hospital’s main building at the address of 1009 S Wood Street.
Glass installation and exterior work is progressing for the 11-story Gateway Apartments building, situated at 2050 W Ogden Avenue in the Illinois Medical District. There will be just under 10,000 square feet of ground-floor mercantile space, along with 161 dwelling units on the upper floors.
New details have been revealed for a new mixed-use development at 1134 S Wood Street in the Illinois Medical District. Located adjacent to an existing two-story medical facility run by the project’s developer The Chicago Lighthouse, the new structure would replace the existing corner parking lot and expand the services offered on-site with new residences. Chicago Lighthouse is partnering with Brinshore Development on the project with Landon Bone Baker Architects as the designers.
