Taking the sixth place in this year’s countdown is the RIU Plaza Hotel Chicago at 150 E Ontario Street in Streeterville. Located just east of the intersection with N Michigan Avenue, the project came in ninth place in last year’s countdown as it replaced an empty lot. Developer The Prime Group worked with local architecture firm Lucien LaGrange Studio on the hotel which will be operated by Spain-based RIU Hotels.
The Saint Grand, ranked as the 12th project in our yearly countdown of the tallest construction projects, is nearing the completion of its facade construction at 218 E Grand Avenue in Streeterville. This 21-story mixed-use building is a collaboration between Mavrek Development, GW Properties, Luxury Living, and Double Eagle Development, offering 248 residential units, 45,000 square feet of office space, and 7,500 square feet for retail purposes. NORR designed the 238-foot structure, characterized by its modern facade of dark metal and glass and distinctive columns of protruding glass balconies.
Permits have been issued for placement of caissons for 462 E North Water Street, a new 72-story residential high-rise in Streeterville. The project, also known as 400 N Lake Shore Drive, will be spearheaded by RMW Acquisition Company LLC, based in New York. Permits for caisson placement were issued on December 6, following an extensive 630-day review period.
Plans for the Navy Pier Marina are set to move forward on the north side of the famed pier structure in Streeterville. Located at roughly 848 E Grand Avenue, the project has been in the works for years as part of the greater modernization efforts for the pier as it pivots for the next generation. Dubbed the Navy Pier Marina, the project is being led by NPM Ventures LLC and its founder Randy Podolsky.
