Chicago YIMBY deep dives into the Chicago Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU) ordinance six-months after its launch across various areas in the city. ADU’s have a long history not only in Chicago, but nationally and is seeing a resurgence as the demand for affordable housing and new ways to gain equity are increasing as well. The local ordinance repeals laws created against them over 60-years ago in select pilot areas and went into effect May 1, 2022 after being voted on late last year.

Initial Details Revealed For Roseland Medical District Masterplan

The Chicago Committee on Design has reviewed the initial details for a new mixed-use medical masterplan in Roseland. The overall plan area is bound by W 110th Street to the north, S Michigan Avenue to the east, W 112th Street to the south, and S Eggleston Avenue to the west and is near to the recently opened Pullman National Monument. The project was brought forward by the Roseland Medical District Commission who is working with a team of designers led by local firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, all of which are helping to provide a zoning and phasing scheme for the upcoming developments.

City Council Approves TIF For Various City Parks

The Chicago City Council has approved the financing for multiple small-improvement projects of various Chicago Park District properties across the city. A majority of the funds will come from various Tax Increment Financing districts, which are often supported by fees from developers. Many city parks are dealing with aging facilities while handling the demand for open space over the last two years.
