Residential Skyscraper Cirrus Now Open to Residents in Lakeshore East

Now open to residents is the 47-story condominium skyscraper known as Cirrus, situated just west of the lakefront in Chicago’s Lakeshore East. This 562-foot-tall tower at 211 N Harbor Drive was developed by Lendlease and Magellan Development Group, offering 350 condominiums connected to 50,000 square feet of amenity space. Alongside its 37-story apartment buildings sibling dubbed Cascade and a 0.8-acre-Cascade Park. The two towers and the park occupy the parcels J, K, and L of the larger Lakeshore East masterplan.

The Reed Surpasses Halfway Mark in South Loop

Construction has now passed the halfway mark for a 41-story residential building known as The Reed, located at 234 W Polk Street in South Loop. Developed by Lendlease, the building is the second of four structures in a masterplan known as Southbank. Lendlease’s plans for the structure include 224 rental apartments and 216 condominiums, for a total of 440 on-site units. The rental portion will occupy the ninth through 22nd floors, while the remaining floors above will be designated for the condominiums.

Superstructure Surpasses Sixth Level for 166 N Aberdeen in Fulton Market

Now six stories high, structural work continues its climb for 166 N Aberdeen Street, a 21-story residential development in West Loop’s Fulton Market. Set to rise 241 feet and planned by development firm Greystar, this tower is one of several new additions for this cycle that will transform the Randolph Street corridor.

YIMBY Tours 800 Fulton in Fulton Market District

This week, Chicago YIMBY had the opportunity to tour the 19-story mixed-use development known as 800 Fulton, one of the largest and most recent additions to the growing West Loop skyline. Tour hosts Thor Equities, Stream Realty Partners, and project architect Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) showcased the various common areas throughout the building’s 500,000 square feet. Having been co-planned by Thor Equities and Quadreal and built by Lendlease, the construction process for this $95 million development spanned between 2019 and 2021. Tenant build-outs are now underway, with multiple high-profile leases for companies like John Deere and Aspen Dental Management already locked in.

Crane Goes Up for 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop

Crane assembly can be seen for the 30-story high rise planned at 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop, replacing a long-empty vacant lot. As of now, permits have been issued for the foundation, tower crane, and the superstructure up to the fourth floor.

Core and Superstructure Continue to Rise at West Loop’s 166 N Aberdeen Street

Just north of the Randolph & Aberdeen intersection in West Loop, Greystar Development’s 166 N Aberdeen Street can be seen rising past the second floor. The 21-story project involves a mixed-use package of ground-level retail and 224 total apartment dwellings. Greystar purchased this parcel, a former sausage factory, for $6 million from MCZ Development.

The Reed Surpasses Ninth Floor at 234 W Polk Street in South Loop

Structural work has now passed the ninth floor for the 41-story residential tower known as The Reed, located directly north of River City Apartments in South Loop. Under the address 234 W Polk Street, this new high rise is part of a large master plan known as Southbank. With Lendlease as the developer, this scheme includes the completed development “The Cooper” adjacently west, alongside a host of new public park spaces. Future plans include a pair of towers roughly the same height as The Reed, connected by a podium at their base.

1400 S Wabash Gets Ready to Rise in South Loop

Foundation work is now underway for a 30-story mixed-use high rise at 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop. The developer CMK Companies plans for 299 total units atop ground-level retail. Replacing a long-vacant lot, the 316-foot-tall structure is poised to contribute to South Loop’s expanding high rise cluster.

Cirrus Condominiums Top Out As Seventh Tallest Development In 2021 Countdown

Topping out at the seventh spot of Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown is the Cirrus condominium development in Lakeshore East. Reaching a height of 562 feet, the tower is part of a greater project that is building up the last plots of land near the water of the multi-decade masterplan for the neighborhood. Developers Lendlease and Magellan have worked with bKL Architecture, whose office is in the nearby Aqua Tower, on the three-tower plan.

The Reed Rises To The 11th Spot In Year-End Countdown

The quickly rising tower dubbed ‘The Reed’ at 234 W Polk Street in the South Loop takes the 11th place in 2021’s year-end countdown. The 41-story residential structure will rise 447 feet tall on the banks of the Chicago River as part of the greater Southbank development led by Lendlease and designed by Perkins + Will. The project joins ‘The Cooper’, an adjacent rental building which was the development’s first completed design.
