This week, YIMBY toured the construction site at 1400 S Wabash Avenue, which will give rise to a 30-story mixed-use high rise in South Loop. Developed by CMK Companies, the 305-foot-tall tower will add to South Loop’s growing skyline cluster, alongside the 768-foot-tall 1000M apartment building that’s rising nearby.
Now open to residents is the 47-story condominium skyscraper known as Cirrus, situated just west of the lakefront in Chicago’s Lakeshore East. This 562-foot-tall tower at 211 N Harbor Drive was developed by Lendlease and Magellan Development Group, offering 350 condominiums connected to 50,000 square feet of amenity space. Alongside its 37-story apartment buildings sibling dubbed Cascade and a 0.8-acre-Cascade Park. The two towers and the park occupy the parcels J, K, and L of the larger Lakeshore East masterplan.
Construction has now passed the halfway mark for a 41-story residential building known as The Reed, located at 234 W Polk Street in South Loop. Developed by Lendlease, the building is the second of four structures in a masterplan known as Southbank. Lendlease’s plans for the structure include 224 rental apartments and 216 condominiums, for a total of 440 on-site units. The rental portion will occupy the ninth through 22nd floors, while the remaining floors above will be designated for the condominiums.
Now six stories high, structural work continues its climb for 166 N Aberdeen Street, a 21-story residential development in West Loop’s Fulton Market. Set to rise 241 feet and planned by development firm Greystar, this tower is one of several new additions for this cycle that will transform the Randolph Street corridor.
This week, Chicago YIMBY had the opportunity to tour the 19-story mixed-use development known as 800 Fulton, one of the largest and most recent additions to the growing West Loop skyline. Tour hosts Thor Equities, Stream Realty Partners, and project architect Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) showcased the various common areas throughout the building’s 500,000 square feet. Having been co-planned by Thor Equities and Quadreal and built by Lendlease, the construction process for this $95 million development spanned between 2019 and 2021. Tenant build-outs are now underway, with multiple high-profile leases for companies like John Deere and Aspen Dental Management already locked in.
