City Council Approves Rezoning Of Lincoln Village In West Ridge

The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning of an existing development at 6111 N Lincoln Avenue in West Ridge. Located on the intersection with N McCormick Boulevard, just west of the north branch of the Chicago River, the rezoning would allow for further development of the shopping plaza with residential units. Developer Newport Capital looks to combat the rise in vacancies of retail spaces by pivoting the 70-year-old plaza’s purpose.

City Announces Winners Of Chicago Works Community Challenge

The City of Chicago has announced the first seven winners of the first round of the Chicago Works Community Challenge across the city. In a press event at Rainbow Beach Park led by Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the winners of a combined $1.5 million grant were declared part of the larger $10 million initiative which began in 2021 and garnered roughly 500 submissions from locals across the seven target regions.

Construction permits have been issued for a new place of worship at 2825 W Howard Street at the northern edge of West Ridge. Baruch Epstein of Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois is the filing owner, whose planned development will rise two stories and will include a basement level. The new construction is set to replace a vacant lot, so no demolition permits will be needed.
