An opening date has been announced for the new Metra Peterson Ridge station at 1810 W Peterson Avenue on the boundary between Edgewater and West Ridge. Bound by N Ravenswood Avenue to the west, the new station will be served by the Union Pacific North Line. Years in the making, the station will open May 20th.

The station itself was announced back in 2009 as part of a state bond program, having run into countless delays with the site including issues with groundwater run-off. However a groundbreaking was officially held back in 2021, with the station filling a 2.8-mile gap between the Rogers Park station to the north and Ravenswood station to the south.

The station itself includes two new six-vehicle platforms for travel in both directions but with an emphasis on downtown-bound traffic. The south-bound platform will include the station building with both sides featuring warming shelters. There will also be 49 vehicle parking spaces, five of which will be ADA compliant, around the facility.

There will also be a new drop-off and pick-up area with a turnaround for cars with bicycle parking. To better serve the community, Metra is adding four additional weekday runs on the line, two in each direction, and is exploring additional weekend service. The opening of the $15 million station marks the end of a long development process and benefits the greater community.

  1. Excited to have this in the neighborhood.
Disappointed that such a public project did not get the architectural treatment it deserved. What a sad, old and boring looking station.
