Caisson work can be seen on the two adjacent sites at 868 N Wells Street and 232 W Chestnut Street, where developer JDL has planned the second and third installations to their North Union mega development. The scope of this larger $1.3 billion masterplan include more than 2.9 million square feet of space, 2,656 residences, an abundance of new commercial units, and 100,000 square feet of public areas.

Permits Issued For Mass Timber Structure At 232 W Chestnut Street Within North Union

New permits have been issued for the third structure set to rise within the North Union mega development at 232 W Chestnut Street in the Near North Side. Located towards the western end of the larger project on the intersection with N Franklin Street, the new building replaces two existing two-story structures currently being demolished. Developer JDL, most recently known for One Chicago, is showing no signs of stopping on the construction of the Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture designed complex.

North Union’s 920 N Wells Street Nears Halfway Mark in Near North Side

Structural work has reached the ninth floor at 920 N Wells Street, a 21-story mixed-use building in Near North Side. Developed by JDL, who recently completed the nearby One Chicago, this new edifice is the first piece of a much larger $1.3 billion plan known as North Union. The four-year plan will span across several blocks of land formerly owned by the Moody Bible Institute.

Second Site Clearing Begins for North Union Megadevelopment in Near North Side

Demolition and site clearing work is now underway for a 25-story mixed-use tower at 868 N Wells Street, the second building in the broader “North Union” scheme set to transform the north end of Chicago’s skyline. The tower will yield 428 rental units atop 12,000 square feet of retail. Currently underway the sibling tower at 920 N Wells Street is making significant construction progress, with much of the first floor’s superstructure now taking shape. This slightly shorter building will stand 18 stories and offer 10,000 square feet of retail and 228 apartments.
