Second Site Clearing Begins for North Union Megadevelopment in Near North Side

Demolition and site clearing work is now underway for a 25-story mixed-use tower at 868 N Wells Street, the second building in the broader “North Union” scheme set to transform the north end of Chicago’s skyline. The tower will yield 428 rental units atop 12,000 square feet of retail. Currently underway the sibling tower at 920 N Wells Street is making significant construction progress, with much of the first floor’s superstructure now taking shape. This slightly shorter building will stand 18 stories and offer 10,000 square feet of retail and 228 apartments.

Demolition Permit Issued for 210 W Chestnut Street in Near North Side

Permits were issued last week for the demolition of a two-story commercial building located at 210 W Chestnut Street in Near North Side neighborhood. The permit’s owner has been listed as 920 N Wells Street LLC. The demolition permit indicates the building demolished has a masonry exterior and the scope of removal includes the slab foundation. As of now, no plans appear to have been submitted to upgrade any of the zoning designations for this property and there is currently no information on any future constructions at the site.

A Closer Look Inside JDL’s One Chicago Development in River North

Last week, Chicago YIMBY had the opportunity to tour JDL Development‘s two-tower megadevelopment known as One Chicago, located at the northeast corner of River North. At 2.1 million square feet, the mixed-use project will yield a combination of 55,000 square feet of office space, 812 residential units, restaurant and banquet space, and a new 65,000-square-foot Whole Foods at its base.

One Chicago’s East Tower Tops Out in River North

Last week, One Chicago celebrated the topping out of its taller east tower, marking a key milestone in JDL‘s River North megadevelopment. Spanning 2.2 million square feet, the mixed-use project comprises of two glassy residential towers atop a central podium. The shorter west tower rises 49 stories and 574 feet, while its eastern neighbor stretches 76 stories and 971 feet in height.

Chicago City Council Approves North Union Development in Near North Side

The Chicago City Council has approved the 8.1-acre North Union megadevelopment in the Near North Side. Generally bounded by the CTA Brown Line tracks and W Oak Street, W Chestnut Street, and N Wells Street, the North Union site will spread across eight acres. Planned by JDL Development, the project site is currently occupied by one- or two-story buildings, parking lots, and an athletic field, all part of the Moody Bible Institute campus. The entire plan reserves 9.4 acres for Moody Bible Institute while turning over the remaining 8.1 acres over to JDL.

Generally bounded by the CTA Brown Line tracks and W Oak Street, W Chestnut Street, and N Wells Street, the North Union site will spread across eight acres. Planned by JDL Development, the project site is currently occupied by one or two story buildings, parking lots and an athletic field, all part of the Moody Bible Institute campus. JDL Development has revealed updated plans for its 8.1-acre North Union megadevelopment in the Near North Side. Generally bounded by the CTA Brown Line tracks and W Oak Street, W Chestnut Street, and N Wells Street, the North Union site will spread across eight acres. The design team for the entire development includes Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, Latent Design, and Omni Workshop.

Zoning Approved for Mixed-Use Development at 1623 N Halsted Street in Lincoln Park

The proposed zoning has been approved for a mixed-use, seven-story development at 1623 N Halsted Street on the border of Lincoln Park and Old Town. Located along N Halsted Street, the interior site is between W Concord Place and W Willow Street. The lot is directly north of the CTA Brown Line tracks and is a transit-served location. The immediate area consists of low-rise residential and mixed-use buildings, with a mix of office and restaurants at grade and residential units above. The new development will replace four existing buildings. JDL Development and Logan Ventures are in charge of the development.

JDL Development Reveals Plans for North Union Complex in the Near North Side

JDL Development has revealed plans for the proposed North Union development in Near North Side. Generally bounded by the CTA Brown Line tracks and W Oak Street, W Chestnut Street, and N Wells Street, the North Union site will span eight acres. Consisting of 15 buildings across the entire property, the design team includes Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, Goettsch Partners, Latent Design, and Omni Workshop.

Chicago Plan Commission Approves Mixed-Use Development at 1623 N Halsted Street in Old Town

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a seven-story mixed-use development at 1623 N Halsted Street in Old Town. Located along N Halsted Street, between W Concord Place and W Willow Street, the site is an interior lot directly adjacent to the CTA Brown Line tracks. The North/Clybourn CTA L station, serviced by the Red Line, can be reached within a two-minute walk. The 8, 9, and 72 CTA bus routes can be accessed at the corner of W North Avenue and N Halsted Street, also within a two-minute walk from the site. JDL Development and Logan Ventures are in charge of the development.
