Initial Gambling Approvals Issued For Bally’s Medinah Temple Facility In River North

Initial approvals were granted by the Illinois Gaming Board for the temporary casino at 600 N Wabash Avenue in River North. Located within the Medinah Temple building across the street from the first UNO Pizzeria location, the temporary facility will operate for the next few years while a permanent home is built nearby. Led by Bally’s, who was the city’s winning casino bid last year, the structure will be renovated from a former furniture store into a state of the art gambling center designed by STL Architects and SOSH Architects.

Renovation permits have been issued for Medinah Temple in River North, where Bally’s has planned a temporary casino during the construction of its planned flagship location just west along the river. Originally designed by Huehl and Schmidt, the four-story structure at 600 N Wabash Avenue was built in 1912 in the Moorish Revival style.

Updated plans have been revealed for the upcoming Bally’s casino at 777 W Chicago Avenue in River West for the Committee on Design. Located on the corner with N Halsted Street, the new development replaces the existing vacant Chicago Tribune print facility after a multi-year selection process. The project itself is being developed by Rhode Island-based Bally’s who recently sold their Las Vegas strip property, they have partnered up with local architecture firm SCB on the design which has seen further development since we last covered the riverfront proposal.

Landmarks Approves Bally’s Temporary Casino in River North

The Permit Review Committee from the Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved plans for the temporary casino at Medinah Temple planned by Bally’s Corporation. As part of their winning casino bid, Bally’s will operate a temporary casino at Medinah Temple until the full-fledged casino is completed at the site of the current Tribune Freedom Center printing plant.

The Chicago City Council has approved Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s selection of Bally’s Tribune Center casino bid at 777 W Chicago Avenue in River West. Replacing the vacant printing plant, the decision comes just weeks after the mayor selected the proposal as the finalist from the original batch of five bids which was then narrowed down to three earlier this year. Rhode Island-based Bally’s is working with local architecture firm SCB on the riverfront project that gathered plenty of feedback and comments from both the community and the aldermen during the heated meeting.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has announced her selection of the Bally’s Tribune Center bid as the winner of the long casino selection process. Located at 777 W Chicago Avenue in River West, the winning proposal will replace the existing Chicago Tribune Printing Center which had been part of a larger approved planned development for multiple years. Rhode Island-based Bally’s, which operates over 10 casinos nationally, is planning to develop the site as their new flagship property designed by local architecture firm SCB that will hug the north branch of the Chicago River.

Updates On City Casino Bids As Selection Looms

As the city progresses towards selecting a winner of the highly-scrutinized casino deal, more renderings and information have been revealed on the complexities of utilizing some of the city’s existing structures. The five bids submitted to the city last year span from near Goose Island to McCormick Place, come from three companies with hopes to create a gambling, dining, entertainment, and lodging destination that is unique to Chicago’s urban fabric. New Renderings And Details Revealed For City Casino Bids

New renderings and details have been revealed for the multiple casino bids in the city spread across various sites in the city. Elaborating on the initial information, we now have further numbers from all five and their temporary casino locations as part of a multi-year process to bring a gambling facility within city borders. The city has requested from developers a place-making gaming destination with lodging, dining, and entertainment that contributes to the urban fabric and focuses on partnerships with local minority organizations.

City Reveals Bids For New Casino

The City of Chicago has revealed five bids for the city’s first casino property from four different developers at various locations across the city. The bids represent the culmination of a multi-year process beginning in 2019 when gambling, including sports betting, was legalized within city limits. When bidding opened in April, it was met with mixed reviews from developers, however after a two-month extension of the deadline four applicants turned in their plans.
