The Chicago City Council has officially approved the landmark designation of the Apollo’s 2000 theater at 2875 W Cermak Road in Little Village. Sitting near the intersection with S Marshall Boulevard, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks issued its final landmark recommendation earlier this year.
Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced the designation of new cultural districts across the city. The selection is part of the state-designated Cultural Districts Program established in 2023. Having announced ten as a whole across the state, six of these are within Chicago representing multiple cultures who have long called the city home.

Located just west of the intersection with S Marshall Boulevard and the city’s Grand Boulevard, the recommendation was officially made by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. Now the historic theater’s official landmark designation will now depend on approval from city council.

A ribbon cutting has been held for the new community center at 2724 W Cermak Road in Little Village. Located on the intersection with S Fairfield Avenue just south of Douglass Park, the new center redeveloped the existing two-story building that previously housed a public library. The project was developed by local nonprofit Latinos Progresando and designed by Canopy Architecture + Design.
