City Council Approves Land Sale For The Grove Bronzeville

The Chicago City Council has approved the selling of land for the upcoming commercial development at 4731 S Cottage Grove Avenue in Grand Boulevard. Dubbed ‘The Grove Bronzeville’, the new project would replace an empty lot bound by E 47th Place to the north and E48th Street to the south. The project is being led by developers Millhouse and Syzygy Cities with Krueck Sexton Partners working on its design.

Redesign And Extension Approved For 130 N Franklin Street In The Loop

An extension has been granted and a redesign revealed for the mixed-use development at 130 N Franklin Street in The Loop. Located on the southwest corner with W Randolph Street, news of the proposal broke back in 2015 as a replacement of an existing empty lot along with a surface parking lot as well. Struggling to execute a tower on it, developer Tishman Speyer was granted an extension on their previous approval due to the last two years. The team at Tishman have been leading the efforts with local architecture firm Krueck Sexton Partners on all iterations of the design.

Mahalia Jackson Plaza to be Built in Chatham

A new temporary community plaza is coming to Chatham. As reported by Block Club Chicago, the neighborhood addition could be completed as soon as summer 2022. The site which will span 8,500 square feet is to be located at the corner of E 79th Street and State Street and will honor legendary Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson who was a longtime Chatham resident. Mahalia Jackson is remembered as a vibrant pillar of the community and as one of the most influential figures in Gospel music.
