CTA debuts the new Damen Green Line station on Chicago’s Near West Side

Monday, after years of planning, delays, and, ultimately, construction, the CTA opened the new Damen Green Line L station at Damen Avenue and Lake Street on Chicago’s Near West Side. The station, approved in 2017, features lots of green, a pedestrian bridge between the inbound and outbound sides of the platform offering a spectacular view of the Chicago Skyline, and a mosaic art installation by local artist Folayemi Wilson in the atrium-style entrance lobby off Damen Avenue.

CTA Announces New Batch Of Stations To Receive Refresh In 2023

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has announced a new batch of stations to receive minor renovation work across the city. As a part of the system’s ongoing Refresh & Renew initiative which started in 2019, the authority under current president Dorval R. Carter will embark on some much needed maintenance work across all lines except the Yellow or Skokie Swift portion. The program itself is part of the greater ‘Meeting the Moment’ Action Plan the system has enacted.

Project Round-Up: Construction And Funding For Racine Blue Line And Homeless Shelter In Garfield Park

In a round-up of smaller projects; a construction contract has been awarded for renovations to the CTA Racine Blue Line station and funding has been announced for a veterans shelter in Garfield Park. The CTA station is located at 430 S Racine Avenue just east of the Illinois Medical District and runs in the center of the highway below. The shelter will be located at 4941 W Chicago Avenue and repurposes an existing building to provide much needed resources to military veterans experiencing homelessness.

Initial Funding Approved For Red Line Extension

The Chicago City Council has approved funding for the CTA Red Line Extension across the South Side. In the works for nearly 50 years, the extension would bring much needed transit from the current terminus of the line at 95th Street all the way down to 130th Street near Altgeld Gardens by Lake Calumet. Hoping to spur new economic development and connect more people to the city center, the project is being spearheaded by the CTA with help from Muller 2 Architects who also worked on the O’Hare Airport Terminal 5 expansion.
