Construction on the Perkins&Will-designed CTA Damen Green Line station continues heading toward completion on Chicago’s Near West Side. Announced by the Emanuel administration in 2017 but delayed by a variety of factors from its originally scheduled opening in 2020, much progress has now been made to this point.
The new station fills a 1.5-mile-long service gap between the Ashland station to the east and the California station to the west. It also adds a convenient transit option for fans going to and from the United Center, joining the Ashland Green /Pink line station and the Illinois Medical District Blue Line station across the Eisenhower Expressway.
General contractor F.H. Paschen is on the build for the Chicago Transit Authority. The City of Chicago issued a New Construction permit, using the address 154 N Damen Avenue, for the station on August 10, 2022, with an estimated cost of $50 million. With original time estimates coming in at about 24 months, the station could open to CTA commuters before summer ends.

Such a dope design. Almost Thompson-Center-esque with those bright trusses.
So pleased to see the longer public request construction of the Damen Station. In future, both residents and United Center visitors will use this station to the delight of the original Mid 90s Green line Community Task Force and Advisory Committee. Next, reconstruction of the Historic Racine Station on West 63rd.
This is a high quality design for a needed station that is at the front door of the United Center. Alderman Burnett is one of the few alderpersons that really gets public transportation, I think he helped get this station. Nice to see excellent work from public agencies working together.
It was a while ago, but I’ve heard he was stumping for a station at Western too.
It would make a ton of sense to add another stop at Western, especially if they move forward with BRT on Western.
I agree that the station looks good now, but the CTA doesn’t regularly clean the glass in their stations. What will this look like when it gets dirty? Glass shows dirt.
Looks cool, but also SO overbuilt. AND you have to go up and over to get from street to westbound platforms? What a weird expensive design. Nice truss.
Is it gonna be done for before the DNC?
Direct route from McCormick to UC…
What a stuipid waste if it’s not.
Every time I drive by there’s 1 guy working for every 15 standing around watching. Been like that all year
