CDC Approves $96.9 Million Sale of Former Michael Reese Hospital Site for Bronzeville Lakefront Development

The Community Development Commission has approved the $96.9 million sale of the former Michael Reese Hospital site to the developers of the Bronzeville Lakefront megadevelopment in Bronzeville. Located at 2929 S Ellis Avenue, the property is bound by E 26th Street to the north, E 31st Street to the south, S Vernon Avenue to the west, and S Lake Park Avenue to the east. The developers for the site are a team called GRIT Chicago, composed of Farpoint Development, Loop Capital, Draper & Kramer, Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, McLaurin Development, and Bronzeville Community Development Partnership.

City Unveils Finalists for C40 Reinventing Cities Competition for Site in The Loop

The City of Chicago has unveiled the four finalist proposals for the C40 Reinventing Cities competition, planned for a city-owned site in The Loop. Located at 331 S Plymouth Court, the project site consists of a city-owned parking garage and a series of smaller parcels on the western edge of Pritzker Park. Bound by S Plymouth Court and W Van Buren Street, the rectangular parcel also has an alley running through that will be vacated.

DPD Issues RFP for Former Grand Boulevard Streets and Sanitation Facility at 5021 S Wabash Avenue in Grand Boulevard

The Department of Planning and Development (DPD) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the former 3rd Ward Streets and Sanitation office at 5021 S Wabash Avenue in Grand Boulevard. Located along S Wabash Avenue, the project site is between E 50th Street and E 51st Street.

Located in Auburn Gresham, the lot is currently a vacant parcel addressed at 838 W 79th Street. Evergreen Real Estate Group and Imagine Group are the developers behind the proposal.

The City of Chicago’s INVEST South/West initiative has selected the Austin United Alliance vision for the Austin RFP site. Located at 5200 W Chicago Avenue, the project site is a vacant lot and the historic Laramie State Bank building. Heartland Housing Alliance and Oak Park Regional Housing are the developers behind the proposal.

The City of Chicago’s INVEST South/West initiative has selected the Englewood Connect vision for the Englewood RFP site. Located along W 63rd Parkway between S Halsted Street and W 63rd Street, the site spans 4.28 acres and is made up of multiple packages. Offered as Site B1/B2 and Site C, the sites are positioned as the second phase of the adjacent Englewood Square I project, which is a Whole Foods-anchored shopping center. McLaurin Development and Farpoint Development are the developers behind the RFP proposal.

30-Story Rivere Takes 18th Spot in Chicago’s Tallest Development Countdown

The Rivere takes the 18th spot in YIMBY’s Chicago’s tallest developments countdown. Located at 444 N Dearborn Street in River North, the approved tower will rise 455 feet once complete. The development awaits groundbreaking after its full approval by the city. Friedman Properties is partnering with the City of Chicago on the development, replacing an existing fire station and building the tower above.

Construction Reaches Final Floor at Rauner Family Veteran Studios in North Lawndale

Construction has reached the fifth and final floor at Rauner Family Veteran Studios, located at 2908 W Roosevelt Road in North Lawndale. Spearheaded by A Safe Haven Foundation in partnership with KMA Companies and the City of Chicago, the residential development will contain 90 efficiency residences primarily designated for veterans.

Demo Permits Issued for 4229 W Maypole Avenue in West Garfield Park

Emergency demolition permits have been issued for a two-story residential frame building at 4229 W Maypole Avenue in West Garfield Park. The City of Chicago owns the property, which appears to have been vacant prior to its slated demolition. However, the exact nature of the reason for demolition was not specified.
