Landmark Status Proposed for Historic Pioneer Arcade in Humboldt Park

A proposal was submitted for review on Wednesday to the Chicago City Council to designate the historic Pioneer Arcade in Humboldt Park as a protected landmark. The three-story building is located at 1535-45 N Pulaski Road and was designed by Danish-born Chicago architect Jens Jensen. Pioneer Arcade was originally a recreation center and featured 20 bowling lanes, a billiard room with 35 tables, and retail spaces. The establishment acted as a social site for the neighborhood. The building has a distinctive Spanish Baroque Revival style and an ornate terra cotta facade.

A permit was issued on Thursday for a new two-story residential building at 1007 N Hamlin Avenue in Humboldt Park. The owner is listed as GT Alternatives LLC. The new construction plans for the project include two units, a basement level, a rear wooden deck, a detached two-vehicle garage, and one additional outdoor parking space. The project will be replacing a vacant lot.

Full permits have been issued for the mixed-use development at 1203 N California Avenue in Humboldt Park. We previously reported on the project which is led by locally-based Hispanic Housing Development Corporation with Pappageorge Haymes Partners on design.

Initial permits have been approved for the mixed-use development at 1203 N California Avenue in Humboldt Park. Located on the northeast corner with W Division Street, the upcoming structure received foundation permits and will replace a vacant lot across the street from the neighborhood’s namesake park. The team at the locally based Hispanic Housing Development Corporation are leading the project with Chicago-based Pappageorge Haymes Partners working on its design.

Initial Funding Approved For Mixed-Use Development At 3831 W Chicago Avenue In Humboldt Park

The Chicago Community Development Commission has approved initial funding for the mixed-use development at 3831 W Chicago Avenue in Humboldt Park. Located just east of the intersection with N Pulaski Road, the new structure will replace an empty lot and three masonry industrial buildings that currently occupy the space. Led by 548 Development who is working on similar projects through the Invest South/West initiative, the proposal is being designed by local firm Lamar Johnson Collaborative with the community in mind.

The new construction plans for the project include two units, a basement level, a rear porch, a detached two-vehicle garage, and additional parking in the form of a three-vehicle parking pad. The project will be replacing a vacant lot.

A permit was issued on Thursday for a new two-story residential building, located at 3576 W Wabansia Avenue in Humboldt Park. The owner is listed as Key Development Group LLC. The new construction will be replacing a vacant lot with a two-unit masonry build with a basement. The permit also indicates the presence of rear balconies, a roof deck, and a detached two-car garage at the rear of the property site.

Final Landmark Status Approved For Puerto Rican Flag Markers In Humboldt Park

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved the final landmark status for the Puerto Rican flag markers along W Division Street in Humboldt Park. Located on the east and west extents of what is known as Paseo Boricua, considered the most-densely commercialized Puerto Rican business district in the US, the flags serve as a visual reminder of the area’s heritage in the recent decades. Originally proposed by community leaders, the markers found at the intersections with N Mozart Street and N Artesian Avenue were designed by local firm DeStefano & Partners, and were unveiled to the public on Three Kings day in 1995.

Updated Details Revealed For Mixed-Use Development At 3831 W Chicago Avenue In Humboldt Park

Updated details have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 3831 W Chicago Avenue in Humboldt Park. The project went in front of the Committee on Design earlier this month where the designers presented their concept to a panel of local architects. The new structure will replace an empty lot and three-masonry clad industrial buildings on the corner with N Avers Avenue. Developer 548 Development was present on the meeting along with designers Lamar Johnson Collaborative, both of which have had previous experience in affordable housing and Invest South/West proposals.

Updated details have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 4000 W North Avenue in Humboldt Park. Dubbed Team Pioneros, the Invest South/West-winning project was presented to the Committee on Design this past week as it begins its journey towards groundbreaking. Park Row Development is working with a 100 percent Latinx-owned team led by local architecture firm JGMA who will not only be working on the design, but will be moving into the restored Pioneer Bank upon completion.
