Quantum computing startup EeroQ has announced its new headquarters within The Terminal redevelopment at 1334 N Kostner Avenue in Humboldt Park. Located just north of the intersection W Division Street, the quantum company relocated to Chicago in 2022 to the building. It has now confirmed it will stay and grow as it receives new incentives from the state.
We originally covered news on The Terminal in 2021 as it completed its construction. Led by IBT Group and Joe Mansueto, local firm Ratio Design served as the architect for the conversion of the once Pyle National Company manufacturing plant. The three-building complex now contains over 250,000 square feet of office space.
Becoming the first tenant of the massive central building, the company has slowly been building out its offices and computer for the last two years. The new announcement represents a $1.1 million investment into the space including added headcount. This is being supported by various programs from the state including a 10-year incentive.
Utilizing a new technology invented in Michigan where electrons float on top of liquid helium, the company hopes to bring its quantum computer offering in a cloud environment in 18 to 24 months. Leasing roughly 9,000 square feet of space, the company hopes to build on the recently announced Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park on the far South Side.

This is so wonderful! I forgot about the initial work at Kostner Industrial Site. They continue to make wise moves in this exciting science and technology industry. Certainly hope the City’s Water Department and MWRD would communicate how they hope to participate considering the amount of water needed to successfully run these operations via Kostner and Far Southeast Chicago. Also, the Office of Sustainability and CMAP should revisit ways to help the Building owners with Green Roof, Tree Canopy and other Green innovative programming. Beautiful just Beautiful!
