The Tower Crane Is In The Ground For The 1901 Project’s First Phase

The tower crane has been planted for construction of the first phase of The 1901 Project on the Near West Side. The west parking facility that McHugh (Construction) and McHugh (Concrete) are building now is the first structure of the megadevelopment from Bulls and Blackhawks ownership. They got permission to begin work in March when the caisson permit was issued; those were well underway when they broke ground on the development in June.

With Caisson Permit In Hand, Work Begins On the 1901 Project’s New Music Hall

Last week was a busy one for The 1901 Project on the city’s Near West Side. The Blackhawks and Bulls hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for the development, which got started on the Phase 1 parking garage this spring. On Tuesday, the day before ceremonial shovels dug into the ceremonial trough of dirt, a permit was issued to begin caisson work on the music hall replacing the former K parking lot at South Damen Avenue and West Adams Street, situated just south of the parking garage work site.

The 1901 Project Lands A Tower Crane Permit As Caissons Roll Along

The 2026-2027 Construction Season is underway at the United Center, with teammates McHugh Construction and McHugh Concrete getting their game on for the first phase of The 1901 Project. Just called up specifically for this series is Stalworth Underground, whose rigs are on site drilling and filling caissons for a three-story mixed-use commercial building that will contain parking, retail spaces, and a new loading area, all covered by an occupiable rooftop deck.
