McDonald’s Park isn’t the only job site in town with a shiny new yellow Liebherr tower crane; there is now a 420 EC-H doing the heavy lifting for the parking garage at The 1901 Project, too. The crane’s base was planted in the Neat West Side ground back in July. We can’t say exactly when the rest of it was erected, but it’s been there long enough to set some heavy ironwork over the below-ground loading dock off Damen Avenue.

Just south of the garage construction zone, there’s a small amount of early 3D progress on the development’s music hall. Like the garage, it’s a wide footprint of activity, and it’s hard to get a good feel for what work is underway. There are some curved concrete walls at grade level, but nothing as intriguing as those steel pieces at the loading dock.

In other 1901 news, there is now a pending permit to begin foundation work for the 10-story hotel and four-story parking garage immediately east of the music hall. Addressed as 1850 West Adams Street (though just days ago the permit used 1846 as the address) the permit hit the Chicago Data Portal on the 18th of this month. It calls for “deep foundations, underground utilities including stormwater tanks, caisson caps, straight-shaft and belled caissons.” No official word yet on when we can expect hotel work to start. The permit names Clayco as the general contractor; McHugh Construction is the GC for the west garage and music hall.
