Caisson work can be seen on the two adjacent sites at 868 N Wells Street and 232 W Chestnut Street, where developer JDL has planned the second and third installations to their North Union mega development. The scope of this larger $1.3 billion masterplan include more than 2.9 million square feet of space, 2,656 residences, an abundance of new commercial units, and 100,000 square feet of public areas.
New permits have been issued for the third structure set to rise within the North Union mega development at 232 W Chestnut Street in the Near North Side. Located towards the western end of the larger project on the intersection with N Franklin Street, the new building replaces two existing two-story structures currently being demolished. Developer JDL, most recently known for One Chicago, is showing no signs of stopping on the construction of the Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture designed complex.
Structural work has reached the ninth floor at 920 N Wells Street, a 21-story mixed-use building in Near North Side. Developed by JDL, who recently completed the nearby One Chicago, this new edifice is the first piece of a much larger $1.3 billion plan known as North Union. The four-year plan will span across several blocks of land formerly owned by the Moody Bible Institute.
The tower crane has now been installed for 920 N Wells Street in Near North Side, where Chicago-based developer JDL has planned an 18-story mixed-use building. This structure is the first stepping stone in a massive new development known as North Union, occupying 8.1 acres on property formerly owned by the Moody Bible Institute. Bolstered by JDL’s partnership with Square Mile Capital and Intercontinental Real Estate, North Union will provide six million square feet of new floor space (equivalent to roughly 1.5 Willis Towers), 2,656 residential units, a wide range of commercial spaces, and over 100,000 square feet of public areas. With its tallest tower approaching 700 feet, the $1.3 billion scheme will shift the northern skyline’s center of gravity further west.
This week, YIMBY had the opportunity to attend the official groundbreaking ceremony for 920 N Wells Street, an 18-story mixed-use building in Near North Side. Developed by JDL in partnership with Square Mile Capital and Intercontinental Real Estate, the project marks the first step in a $1.3 billion development by JDL known as North Union, which will span across 8.1 acres on land formerly owned by the Moody Bible Institute.
