Further construction permits have been issued for the upcoming development located at 868 N Wells Street in the Near North Side. This is part of developer JDL mega-development which has been dubbed North Union. As previously reported, the $1.3 billion masterplan will house roughly 2.9 million square feet of space, 2,656 residences, new commercial units, and 100,000 square feet of public areas.

This leg of the development is mixed-use and is comprised of a staggering 428 residential units and 12,000 square feet of retail on the first floor. The building will rise 305 feet and have a total of 27 stories. The 20th floor will have a north-facing setback to allow for additional outdoor space beyond the shared roof deck.
The development is broadly accessible with bus service for Routes 22, 37, 66, 70, and 156 all within a 10-minute walk. Both the Brown and Purple Lines of the CTA can be boarded at the Chicago station via a six-minute walk south of the property site. Those seeking Red Line service can head to the second Chicago station via an 11-minute walk southeast. The surrounding area has ample amenities to enjoy.
Power Construction is listed as the general contractor on the build and they are also overseeing the other constructions within the development. The issuance of this permit furthers the work on the build which is projected to complete by 2026.
