Adopt-a-Landmark Fund Approved For Pui Tak Center In Chinatown

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved the Adopt-a-Landmark Fund for the Pui Tak Center at 2216 S Wentworth Avenue in Chinatown. Located just south of the intersection with W Cermak Road near the Chinatown Gate, the multi-story structure has been an anchor for the surrounding community for decades. Originally built for On Leong Merchants Association in 1928, it was designed by architects Christian S. Michaelsen and Sigurd A. Rognstad in an Orientalism-style.

Construction Permits Issued for 218 W 24th Street in Chinatown

Full construction permits have been issued for a new three-story residential building located at 218 W 24th Street in Chinatown. Owned and under development by Victor Kuo of Kuo Construction Inc, the planned structure will house three total residences, a basement for tenant storage, and three on-grade parking spaces. Chicago YIMBY reported on this project last December, when demolition permits were issued for the previously occupying frame residential building.

Construction Nearly Complete for Five-Story Mixed-Use Addition at Chinatown’s 2353 S Wentworth Avenue

Photos show the near-complete construction of a five-story addition to an existing two-story building, located at 2353 S Wentworth Avenue in Chinatown. The project owner and developer, ME Wentworth LLC led by Che Mei Wong, has renovated the original two-story retail structure, while adding 149 rooms in a new four-floor hotel portion. An additional seventh-floor residential component appears to be in the works, which will include a single 3,000-square-foot penthouse unit.

Demolition permits have been issued for a three-story frame residential building, located at 218 W 24th Street near the southeast corner of Chinatown. The owner, listed in the permit as Victor Kuo, plans to replace the current structure with a three-story residential building. The not-yet-issued construction permit shows that the building will contain three total units, as well as a basement and three on-grade parking spaces. Neither an architect nor renderings have yet been revealed.
