5200 W Chicago Avenue Breaks Ground in Austin

Construction has broken ground for 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin. The Oak Park Regional Housing Center and Heartland Housing Alliance have partnered to breathe new life into the historic Laramie State Bank building. The building is part of a larger initiative known as INVEST South/West. The new measures hope to focus the resources of multiple city departments, as well as outside community organizations and corporate/philanthropic partners, toward 12 commercial corridors within 10 different south and west side neighborhoods.

City Council Approves Redevelopment at 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin

The Chicago City Council has approved the redevelopment project at 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin. As previously reported by YIMBY, the Heartland Housing Alliance and Oak Park Regional Housing Center have planned an ambitious mixed-use project at the site. With the final hurdle completed, Valerio Dewalt Train Associates, who are heading the residential build of the development, can take steps toward construction including filing the necessary permitting.

Several key approvals have passed for 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin, where Heartland Housing Alliance and Oak Park Regional Housing Center have planned a major mixed-use redevelopment around the former Laramie State Bank. The Community Development Commission has approved the sale of 5206 W Chicago Avenue, while the Chicago Plan Commission has approved both the rezoning for the project and its Planned Development application. The scope of the plans have received both city and community support, having won the Austin Invest South/West RPF competition to imagine new projects for Chicago’s west and south sides.

Committee on Design Reviews Mixed-Use Development at 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin

The newly-launched Committee on Design has reviewed a proposed mixed-use development at 5200 W Chicago Avenue in Austin. The property is a rectangular site fronting W Chicago Avenue. The parcel is bound by N Laramie Avenue to the east and N Latrobe Avenue to the west, with a public alley at its northern boundary. The site is currently home to the abandoned Laramie State Bank Building in addition to a series of vacant lots. Led by Heartland Housing Alliance and Oak Park Regional Housing Center, the proposal is the winning bid from the city’s Invest South/West Austin RFP.
