Foundation permits have been issued for O’Hare International Airport’s new Concourse D. Years in the making, the permit marks a major milestone for the structure, which began construction earlier this year. The effort is being led by the airport under the ORDNext project, which will eventually deliver a new Global Terminal and additional concourse.
A groundbreaking was held for the first concourse of the massive expansion of O’Hare International Airport, now known as ORDNext. The ceremony was attended by local officials and comes after months of site prep work ahead of foundation work. With this, also came a new timeline for the project that differs from the last time we covered the project.
An updated timeline has been revealed for the massive expansion of O’Hare International Airport as the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) begins funding efforts. Announced back in 2018, earlier this year the city reached a resolution with airlines on a new phasing plan for construction as costs continue to balloon with inflation.
Further details and renderings have been revealed for the first phase of the O’Hare terminal expansion. The renderings and plans are for the first satellite concourse to be located just west of the existing C concourse that is connected to Terminal 1. The project is being led by the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) along with SOM, Ross Barney Architects, Arup, and JGMA working on its design.
A new agreement has been reached for the construction of the O’Hare global terminal and remote concourse project. The three-phase development will reconfigure and expand the central terminal core at the airport after the completion of the Terminal 5 expansion. The long-term project is being led by the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) with Studio Gang and SOM working on its design.
