Permission has been granted by the city to begin construction on the Bucktown lot once home to neighborhood stalwart Danny’s Tavern. That two-story building from 1898 was permitted for demolition in January, more than five years after the bar closed, a victim of the COVID pandemic.
A single-family frame residence on the corner of Armitage Avenue and Wood Street in the Bucktown neighborhood will soon be replaced by a two-unit building permitted by the city on January 12. Assigned to 1803 West Armitage, the new permit allows for a three-story plus basement structure, indicating one duplex-down unit and one duplex-up, though it is not clear of they will be condominiums or rental properties.
Plans have been revealed for a residential development at 1801 North Winnebago Avenue in Bucktown. The uniquely shaped site is bounded by CTA Blue Line tracks to the rear and the 606 Trail across the street to the south. Currently used as a parking lot, the property is slated for redevelopment by a local developer operating under the name 1801 N. Winnebago LLC.
A demolition permit was issued January 8 to tear down the former Danny’s Tavern building and its detached garage at 1951 West Dickens Avenue in the Bucktown neighborhood. According to Block Club Chicago, the bar closed during the COVID pandemic and the property went up for sale in 2021. The two-story, 1898-built edifice was purchased this past November for $821,000 by a Blue Island developer.
Construction progress has reached the fourth story on the residential development at 1880 North Milwaukee Avenue in the Bucktown neighborhood. The Zoning Board of Appeals approved the project in January 2024, with Macon Construction Group breaking ground in October of last year.
