Facade Pieces Go Up at UIC’s Computer Design Research and Learning Center in Little Italy

The University of Illinois Chicago’s new computer science building at 900 W Taylor Street in Little Italy is now undergoing facade installation. The five-story structure, called the Computer Design Research and Learning Center, is under construction and will connect to UIC’s existing Science and Engineering Labs building. Once completed, the center will add 135,000 square feet of new programming to support the university’s growing computer science program.

Exterior Takes Shape for “The Draper 2.0” in Uptown

Facade work has commenced for a five-story mixed-use building at 1135 W Winona Street in Uptown. This edifice is part of a two-part development phase known as “The Draper” by Cedar St. Companies. Both buildings will stand five stories and featuring a combination of ground-level retail spaces and 180 residential units in total, comprised of 168 apartments and 12 townhomes.

Permits Issued for 3409 N Bosworth Avenue in Lake View

Construction permits have now been issued for a three-story residential development at 3409 N Bosworth Avenue in Lake View. The project site is located between W Roscoe Street and W Cornelia Avenue, and bounded by the CTA Brown Line tracks to the north. The property is being developed by Marduk Management, using two LLCs named 3407 N Bosworth LLC and 3409 N Bosworth LLC, with plans for six total units for the project, each approximately 1,025 square feet.

Steel Tops Out for UIC Computer Science Building in Little Italy

The University of Illinois Chicago’s new Computer Design Research and Learning Center continues to make significant progress, with its steel frame now at full height. Located at 900 W Taylor Street at the southern end of the main campus in Little Italy, the five-story addition will be adjacent to the existing Science and Engineering Labs building.

Plan Commission Approves Mixed-Use Development At 1047 N Rush Street In Near North Side

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a mixed-use development at 1047 N Rush Street in the Near North Side. Located just south of the intersection with E Cedar Street, the new project will add some density to the quickly changing block that will see nearly every building replaced or remodeled in the coming years including the home of Carmine’s next door. The team at LFI Development is behind the proposal along with Booth Hansen serving as the architects.

Dead By Design #7: Old Chicago Post Office Redevelopment

The penultimate addition to our Dead by Design series of cancelled Chicago projects is a gargantuan 2011 proposal oriented around the nine-story Old Chicago Post Office. The original post office was a smaller mail terminal designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst and White. Having completed in 1921, the Art Deco structure was expanded in 1932 to bring its total square footage to 2.5 million square feet. While shuttering its mail operations in 1996, the building was inducted into the National Registry of Historic Places in 2001, then would be sold by the city to Bill Davies of International Property Developers in 2009 for $24 million.

Chicago Plan Commission Approves 2700 N Pine Grove Avenue in Lincoln Park

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a mixed-use development at 2700 N Pine Grove Avenue in Lincoln Park. Located near the intersection with W Wrightwood Avenue near the Elks National Memorial and Headquarters as well as Lincoln Park’s North Pond, the project will restore the existing domed church building on the site with a large addition built over its current surface parking lot. The developer is the church itself, the Second Church of Christ Scientist Chicago which has seen dwindling congregation numbers thus the decision to move forward with the addition designed by local design firm Booth Hansen Architects.
