An official opening date of August 5th has been announced for the new CTA Green Line Damen stop at 2001 W Lake Street in the Near West Side. The announcement comes after years of planning and delays to the project and which saw its cost rise due to this. Efforts for the station were led by the CTA with Perkins & Will working on its design.

This development aims to reintroduce rail service to an area that has lacked it since the original station’s demolition in 1948. The original Damen Green Line station, constructed in 1893, was ultimately demolished 55 years later, alongside nine other stations, due to decreased demand and the CTA’s efforts to improve service efficiency.

Located on the southwest corner with the namesake street of N Damen Avenue, the new structure replaces a vacant lot that was once densely packed and previously held a station. The Chicago Transit Authority is leading the project with local architecture firm Perkins & Will in charge of its design.
Permits have been issued for the upcoming Green Line CTA station located at 2001 W Lake Street in the Near West Side.
