Construction Continues On St. Boniface Conversion In Noble Square

Construction continues on the first phase of the residential conversion of the St. Boniface Church at 1356 W Chestnut Street in Noble Square. Located on the corner with N Noble Street across the street from the park, we recently covered new renderings for the upcoming second phase of the overall proposal. Now we check in on the progress of the project being developed by ZSD Corp and designed by SPACE Architects + Planners.

The two-building first phase focuses on rehabbing the 1909-built church originally constructed for the St. Boniface congregation which dates back to the 1860s. The stunning Romanesque Revival style building closed in the 1990s, and the developer purchasing it in 2016 and kickstarted the project. Now the structure is on its way to yielding 18 residential units made up of 14 three-bedrooms and four four-bedroom layouts, with select units at the top having access to private patios within the existing bell towers.

Construction of 921 N Noble Street by Ian Achong

Currently work continues on replacing much of the roof, all of the windows, as well as installing new floors and internal structure. Work is also progressing on the new four-story building replacing a vacant lot to the north of the church, going by the address of 921 N Noble Street after receiving its permits this past May. Rising 46 feet in height it will contain nine residential units of which eight will be affordable, and one will be a ground-level live-work unit adjacent to an 1,100-square-foot commercial space.

Updated rendering for St. Boniface Phase Two by SPACE Architects + Planners

Combined both structures will offer a total of 37 underground vehicle parking spaces within this first phase. Although a formal completion date has not been announced, a majority of the units within the church have already been sold with 35 percent of those in the coming second phase. Based on the current speed we can predict construction should wrap up in the beginning of next year.
