Construction of the 132-unit residential development at 1549 North Fremont Street on the Near North Side is underway. When we posted about the foundation permit being issued back in August, the developers from CityPads let us know with a comment that construction would begin after Labor Day. And true to form, foundation work has started. Since that time, the full building permit (assigned to 1529 North Fremont Street) has also been issued.
The 132 units across the five-story structure will include 26 affordable apartments. Studio units will be featured here, with 112 of them making up 85 percent of the overall count. The ground floor will hold 8,000 square feet of retail space, a 29-car garage, and a small residential lobby. A garden terrace to be shared by tenants will be located atop the parking garage. NORR Architects is the architect of record for the development. ENC Construction is the general contractor.
Residents of 1549 North Fremont Street will live about two blocks from the North Avenue/Clybourn Avenue/Halsted Street intersection. Here they’ll find access to the North/Clybourn Red Line subway station, as well as CTA bus service via Routes 8, 9, and 72.
