This week, YIMBY stopped by the commercial redevelopment of 932 W Randolph Street in West Loop. With exterior work now complete, interior construction can be seen progressing as this three-story former bank prepares for tenant occupancy. Developer L3 Capital has converted the former bank into a new retail and office venue, reskinning its outer walls and gutting the interior, while also adding a new segment at the northern end of the property. Last year, plans were revealed for the retail component to be occupied by a showroom for the electric carmaker Rivian.

The design by OKW Architects involves a brick facade along the first two floors and dark metal paneling on the upper levels, a contrast to the lighter-toned exterior of the former bank. The rear third-floor terrace of the bank building has also remained, spanning 1,500 square feet and equipped with new glass railings and other finishes. The added segment on the north end takes on the same look as the rest of the project, housing the elevator and stairs.

Not only is the commercial development near the heart of Randolph Street’s restaurant row and at the foot of the rapidly densifying Fulton Market, but it is also closely connected to several transit options. Routes 8 and 20 are each within a five-minute walk, with closest bus stops to the east and south, respectively. The CTA L’s Morgan station, meanwhile, offers service for the Green and Pink Lines just a block to the north.

Walsh Construction served as general contractor for the redevelopment, while Norcon Inc completed the initial demolition work. Move-ins are now imminent, and will likely take place in the coming months.

Funny how the reality never looks like the render. Yes, Jack would have had to taken the picture on a partly sunny day around 9:30am to get same lighting, but there is also no cars in the render or traffic and thus looks a lot different.
