Construction work is progressing at City Club Apartments MDA Phase II, a seven-story mixed-use development at 60 E Benton Place in The Loop. Located on a corner lot at the intersection of N Wabash Avenue and E Benton Place, the project is an expansion of the existing City Club Apartments, located adjacent to it at 63 E Lake Street. The building is designed by architect Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture and developed by City Club Apartments MDA II LLC. Norcon, Inc. is listed as the general contractor for the project.
Recent photos show the concrete structure and metal floor decking at full height, with metal stud framing filling in the wall cavities from floors two through five. The construction hoist rises on the northern edge of the west façade along Wabash Avenue. Photos show workers on the ground floor covering the sprinkler pipes, which may be in preparation for spraying the fireproofing material.
City Club Apartments MDA Phase II will hold 81 residential units, a ground-floor retail component, and a rooftop deck with outdoor pool. There will also be a connection to the adjacent existing City Club Apartments building on the sixth floor. The project offers many amenities, including an on-site restaurant and bar, a business center and conference room, dry cleaning and laundry services, social programming, and a rooftop deck with pool, terrace, and grilling stations.
There are many options for public transportation nearby, with the closest being the Lake CTA L station, serviced by the Red Line, only a two-minute walk away. The next closest is the State/Lake CTA L station, serviced by the Green, Brown, Orange, Pink, and Purple Lines, within a four-minute walk. Additionally, there are multiple bus lines running near the site.
City Club Apartments MDA Phase II is advertising pre-leasing starting fall of 2020, with the first move-ins scheduled to begin in spring 2021.
