As Concrete Begins To Go Vertical, 1010 South Wells Puts Up Its Tower Crane

A month after planting the base in the midst of foundation work, 1010 South Wells now has an erected tower crane on hand ready to do the heavy lifting. The red stub for a Potain MD485B model was set in concrete on February 5 by general contractor Brandts Build and concrete partner Goebel forming, and through last week’s rain and wind, a crew from ALL Crane/Central Contractors Service got the crane completely assembled and operational.

Tower Crane Base Planted As Foundation Work Continues At 1010 South Wells

The tower crane base is in the ground at 1010 South Wells Street, the first phase of CMK Companies’ Riverline development in the South Loop. The keen eye of reader Alex (MrSouthLoop on Instagram) spotted a truck delivering the stub Thursday morning, and it was set in place immediately. Around the base, foundation work continues by general contractor Brandts Build and their concrete partner, Goebel Forming.

The first piles were driven into the ground at 1010 South Wells Street in the South Loop on Thursday, marking the beginning of the Riverline residential development. Eschewing caissons, those piles will provide the foundation for this 21-story, 386-unit building from CMK Properties. 1010 South Wells is the first, and northernmost, parcel to be developed for the multi-structure plan.
