Rendering of the AbbVie Foundation Cancer Pavilion by CannonDesign By: Daniel Schell 7:30 am on November 12, 2024
Structural steel is rising into shape for the AbbVie Foundation Cancer Pavilion at the University of Chicago in Hyde Park . General contractor Turner Construction has the steel up to the underside of the fourth and fifth levels as it begins to wrap around the twin concrete cores.
As we reported last week , the facility was renamed from the UChicago Cancer Care Center when the non-profit arm of the North Chicago-based pharmaceutical giant AbbVie, a long-time partner with UChicago Medicine, made a $75 million donation towards completion of the project. The eight-story, 575,000-square-foot facility is the work of architecture firm CannonDesign . UChicago Medicine plans to have the cancer center open for treating patients in 2027.
