Recent photos show the topped-out, seven-story mixed-use addition to the City Club MDA apartment complex, located in the northeast corner of The Loop.
City Club Apartments is the listed owner owner and developer filed under City Club Apartments MDA II LLC, according to permits issued this past April. With an official address of 60 E Benton Place, the mixed-use project will bring 81 residential units and ground-floor retail to the complex. Apartment tenants will have access to a host of amenities and features all contained within the new structure. These include a rooftop deck and pool, a restaurant/bar, a conference center, as well as dry cleaning and laundry stations. Residents will also be able to cross a bridge on the sixth floor leading to the existing 42-story tower, which contains additional amenities, more retail, and the remainder of the apartments.
Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture is responsible for the design, whose exterior features a modern interpretation of the classic masonry facade. The first five floors will be encased in ornamental brick patterning, while the top two floors showcase a more gray-toned masonry siding. Renderings also show an eclectic roof-level design, complete with a row of vegetation around the roof-line and colorful decorations and finishes across the deck area.
With a walking score of 100 according to the marketing website, the site is central to many nearby points of interest, including the Chicago River and Riverwalk to the north, the Lakefront Trail to the east, and the 319-acre Grant Park to the southeast, and the theater-laden Randolph Corridor to the southwest.
The site is located at the corner of E Benton Place and N Wabash Avenue. Access to buses 3, 4, 26, 66, 124, 143, 147, 151, and 157 can be found at the Michigan & Lake/Randolph stop, a two-minute walk southeast. Additional bus access includes Routes 2, 29, 146, and 148 via a three-minute walk southwest to the State & Randolph stop.
CTA L availability includes the State/Lake station, which is serviced by the Orange, Purple, Brown, Pink, and Green Lines, and is located less than a three-minute walk northwest. Additional Red Line access, meanwhile can be found via a two-minute walk west to Lake station. The Blue Line subway, meanwhile, is a four-minute walk southwest to Washington station.
Norcon, Inc. is serving as the general contractor of the $18 million project. A move-in date is set for spring 2021.
