Still In Ground-Level Mode, 4725 North Clifton Lands Its Full Permit

As foundation work continues at 4725 North Clifton Avenue in Uptown, the City of Chicago has issued a permit allowing the completion of the four upper floors of the five-story apartment building. General contractor Method Construction is at street level, working on concrete after receiving the foundation and superstructure permit to build up to the second floor on April 24. With the latest permission granted on August 19, they can build out the entire 40-unit structure.

CEDARst Companies is developing the project, which replaces the south end of a surface parking lot abutting the CTA Red/Purple Line elevated rail tracks, next to the vintage Uptown Broadway Building at 4707 North Clifton. There will be 12 studio units and 28 one-bedroom apartments in the building, and residents requiring a space for their car will need to rely on the remnants of the surface lot, because the new building will include no new parking spaces.

Back in June, when we stopped by the site to confirm the beginning of site prep, 4725 North Clifton, a design by Hirsch MPG, was to be known as The Clifton. But now, according to CEDARst’s page about the development, it is referred to as “The Laurel” while also referencing “The Uptown Square.” Name changes for new projects seem to always be in flux, so we’ll wait until tenants start moving in, likely at some point next year. We’ve reached out to CEDARst for clarification, and hope to hear back soon.
