A portion of another surface parking lot has disappeared, never to be parked on again, as site prep gets underway for The Clifton at 4725 North Clifton Avenue in Uptown. A site visit during the final week of May showed most of the old asphalt scraped away, with only a few marked parking spaces still visible at the south end of the site. The Clifton’s construction will include no parking, so once those last few spaces are banished, this will be a car-free space.

Developer CEDARst Companies and general contractor Method Construction Services got a foundation and superstructure permit on April 24 for five stories and 40 units, statistics we have seen quite frequently on the North Side lately with 6143 North Kenmore and 6150 North Sheridan also just getting started. Abutting the 100-year-old Uptown Broadway Building at 4707 North Broadway, The Clifton will contain 12 studio apartments and 28 one-bedroom units on the four upper levels. The ground floor will include retail and amenity spaces, as well as the resident lobby.

A full permit to complete the Hirsch MPG-designed building has been pending in the Chicago Data Portal since July of last year. The initial permit carried with it a reported cost of an even one million dollars, and it covered work through the second level. The reported cost for the full permit will be unveiled upon its issuance.

Residents of The Clifton need only walk to the north end of their block to access the Lawrence Red Line platform, where eastbound and westbound Route 81 buses are also available. For north-south travel, the #36 Broadway bus stops half a block northwest at Lawrence and half a block south at Leland Avenue. Route 151 stops three blocks east on North Sheridan Road.

Good stuff.
A moment of silence for our fallen pavement. Ok its over, nice infill.
Nice, this is such an awkward empty space in its current state. Right next to the red lime, too. No brainer!
This sucker is going to have such a positive impact on this dead zone of pavement. It’s shocking how long these have persisted.
It’d be cool if the mediocre bank across the street + sad grass patch could get redeveloped too.
The wedge is begging for something more intentional.
