The first residential tower at Halsted Pointe is starting to rise out of the Goose Island ground at 931 North Halsted Street. Onni Group and McHugh Concrete raised a tower crane here back in June, and now it’s bringing progress up from street level, making it visible above the fence line. From above, you can see several distinct sections of the building’s lowest floors under construction.

Onni got a foundation and superstructure permit to begin construction back in November of last year, with the site having sat idle since the demolition of the Greyhound maintenance facility in 2023. The project came to life in April with the start of caisson work. The tower crane was permitted in mid-May, and the full building permit was issued on July 14. And now the core is jutting up toward its 46-story topping out.

Onni Group has been lighting up their Chicago tower cranes for years, and they did not disapPoint(e) with this one. I didn’t know that thing was lit until this past weekend. Someone showed me a photo from their phone, but it hasn’t been shared with me. If you have pictures of the glowing blue crane (anyone else think of Tron?) send them our way and I’ll add them to this article so everyone can see it. It’s very cool.

931 North Halsted will hold 464 dwelling units within its 46 levels, with first occupancy expected before the ball drops on New Year’s Eve 2028.

Love the photos. Curious how this is being sequenced with the massive parking garage they have planned for the site (or if what we’re seeing will be buried/integrated into it). In the meantime I’ll be praying to the CDOT overloads to finish the Chicago/Halsted viaduct…..
Anyone know if the Halsted portion of the viaduct work is close to done? It was supposed to be completed earlier than the Chicago Ave bridge portion.
It is not. If you go on youtube and search for “devodare” he does a lot of drone vids over the area. He has one from 16 Aug that shows the Chi/Hal intersection still pouring the foundation pillars. The northern part of Halsted is poured to the river and the eastern part of Chicago has bit.
The rest of Chicago east of the intersection is a staging area for the bridge work that is snails pace and won’t be done until after the bridge is in place.
yeah devodare is great channel for bridge updates.
ballys also has a live feed of the casino’s construction progress and one of the three webcams it rotates through shows the chicago bridge progress well.

As far as I know, they’re still working, but I haven’t been watching closely.
