A demolition permit has been carried out on a single-story commercial building at 3650 North Ashland Avenue in Lake View. The permit was issued on January 27 of this year to raze the shuttered Capt’n Nemo’s sandwich shop, with Precision Excavation performing teardown duties. A visit to the site on June 15 shows nothing remaining but rubble and salvaged bricks.

Tucker Pup’s Pet Resort has plans to build a new four-story facility on the site. They are still in the financing stage for the project, but hope to begin construction before winter arrives, according to Tucker Pup’s owner Jay Spainhour. The new 24,000-square-foot building, designed by Linden Group Architects of Orland Park, will contain 22 parking spaces on the first floor, with pet services provided on the three upper levels. Those services will include dog boarding, daycare, training, grooming, and retail sales.
“We intend to have artificial turf indoors in several of the play rooms for dogs, so they can enjoy being on grass but neighbors will not hear any barking,” says Jay, who estimates a 12-month construction duration once ground is broken. “There will be a large training footprint, including a very large classroom where we will offer classes and canine sports.”
A rendering of the building shows a dark brick facade with gray panels and a fourth floor that’s stepped back from the street. This will be second resort for Tucker Pup’s, and it is considerably larger than their first iteration at 219 North Carpenter Street in the West Loop. The general contractor is likely to be RWE Design Build of Downers Grove.
