A 12-unit apartment building has topped out in Lake View at 904 West Dakin Street just north of Wrigley Field on Chicago’s north side. The city issued a construction permit for the new development on August 23 of this year. It replaces a multi-unit frame home at 906 West Dakin built in 1888 that was sold in 2022 and demolished in the spring of this year.
904 West Dakin is a four-story building designed by Axios Architects. We haven’t seen renderings or floor plans of the project, but construction progress shows large inset balconies at the front of the building, facing Dakin Street. What appear to be sliding glass doors at the rear of the building indicate there will be alley-facing balconies as well. The permit calls for four off-street parking spaces off the alley, but no garage, despite there having been a garage with the previous property. Kiferbaum Development Group is both the developer and the general contractor.
Residents of 904 West Dakin Street will live a block away from the Sheridan Red Line platform. Several CTA buses are within a two-block walk of home, including Routes 151, 80, 36, and the X9 Ashland Express. Further east are stops for Routes 135, 136, 146, and 148 which all head south toward The Loop.

Good! WAY more taxes for the city, which are desperately needed. Also, homes for more people!
