405 West Armitage, the new condominium development from Barrett Homes in the Old Town neighborhood, is taking form as it begins to rise above street level. Also performing general contractor duties as well as those of developer, Barrett broke ground on the project this fall, shortly after receiving a building permit from the City of Chicago that was issued on October 4. The site used to be home to a single-story brick building that most recently held a CVS store.

The four-story, six-unit elevator building will replace the lost commercial space by including a pair of retail spaces on the ground floor, with customer entrances on Armitage Avenue and Sedgwick Street. This level will also include a dozen indoor parking spaces and a storage area for 13 bicycles.

Renderings of the structure, designed by 360 Design Studio, show balconies on the third and fourth floors, as well as rooftop space over the parking podium at the west end of the building. The residential lobby will be entered from the sidewalk along Armitage, facing north.

Residents of 405 West Armitage will have access to CTA bus Routes 37 and 73 on their block. The 73 bus can be used to connect with the Armitage Brown/Purple Line elevated platform, which lies about three-quarters of a mile west. Two blocks east at Clark Street are stops for Routes 22 and 36. Cross the street, and they’re on the doorstep of the Lincoln Park Zoo.

  1. very nice. I like the treatment of the garage portion.

  2. The storefront design is really lovely as well.

  3. Should have been taller but I love the design! Huge improvement over the CVS

  4. Attractive building. Enhances the corner much more than the decrepit structure now erased, thankfully.
